Recommend me a new video card

I have an 8600gt currently, and I need something new.

My price range is anything up to about $250, or $260. I've had a lot going on in my life recently and haven't really been staying in the know with computers for the last 6 months or so. Anyways, any and all help is appreciated! Thanks! :D

This is kinda off topic but is that free program (Download Manager) any good? It looks like something new that I could try.

Why you don't ask me by PM, instead of making off-topic post ?

The free download manager is very good in my opinion. It can download flash video from youtube, and it can convert it to other formats. Also, you can download torrents. Just try it for a week and if you didn't like it you can uninstall it.

If you have an 8600GT already, you can upgrade to the 9600GT which is between your card and the 8800GT in terms of performance, but I think you should hold out until the high end series 9 cards come out, because then the 8800GTS as well as the 8800GT will drop even more in price. It really depends on what games you like to play, obviously if you want to play Crysis on full you will have to hold out for a bit longer, as that game even with my Q6600 at 3.4Ghz and 8800GTS maxed out, I can only manage to play it with HIGH settings. If you want a card right now, the best one to get would be the 8800GTS, if not hold out for abit longer to see what the 9 series has to offer.

I don't really want to spend anymore than $260, ever. I don't game a ton, but I do do it occasionally, and I need something a lot better than this.

I have yet to get Crysis. I want to play Oblivion again, and I currently play a bunch of Source games, and 2142. COD:4 also.

I am considering that GTS with the MIR. That's a good deal.

In terms of performance, how are the 9600s compared to the 8800GT's and the 8800GTS's? I've been to GPUreview.com and compared them, and they don't really seem to have a huge difference on paper. How do they compare in certain games? Anyone here have experience with any of them?

i would go with the intel 965 express chipset. now that intel has released the source for their drivers it will offer a very good inexpensive and open way of getting 3d gfx and being able to use a completly free driver sponsored by the manufacturer.
