Recommend me a waterblock for this...

So right now money is a little more tight than I'd like it to be because I just purchased my upgrades.

Everything was going fine and I was planning on OC'ing my new FX8350 in the future after some water cooling.

At idle, I'm getting temps of 33c, and under load, it's shooting up to near 60. The stock cooler fan is whirring like nobody's business, and my 5850 is not a happy trooper at this point.

A friend of mine offered my is old Koolance PC2-601 case for 20 dollars. It has everything except for a waterblock. I'm taking him up on this offer because at this point, I need water cooling just to run my build. At least it feels that way.

What waterblocks should I be considering, taking into account that I'll be using the internals of that case until further notice?

With the boad you have it would be a waste of money to get a water block. The board only has a 3+2 power phase. Just get a good high end air cooler or a closed loop cooler.

It's a 4+1. I'm only going for about 4.5. And there's no point to doing that. I'm already getting such a good deal on this that it's actually a cheaper option anyway.

You are missing the point. Your board is not able to handle the clocks that wuld need a full loop to cool. The electrical capability (and frankly BIOS support either) is just not there.

That aside, you are going to be out $60+ for a decent waterblock. You could take that money and get a high end air cooler and still be plenty cool and quiet.

Dude just get an air cooler. As others have said, it's kinda pointless using water cooling with that board. You're never going to get an overclock which needs to be cooled with water by using that board.

Okay, pretend I have a mobo with a 8+2 power phase, because eventually I'll be moving to one. But right now, I'm focusing on the water cooling.

it will still be cheaper to buy a good air cooler.

Look at heatkiller or Swiftech blocks if you are so dedicated to it though. The best block for teh price is xspc raystorm.

I was probably going to go with the raystorm anyway. I like the looks of it.

And I'm getting the pump, fans, radiator, tubing, and reservoir for 20 dollars, so for 70 dollars I'll have a custom loop. A d14 is about the same price, and it probably wouldn't even fit my case.

How about we pretend that you don't have the budget to do what you want, how about taking the advice of many people you came here to ask?

Get a good air cooler man.

If he really does have that deal on the rest of the loop, then water will be better for him. Not that AMD needs it ever.

Yeah, i have a complete koolance pc2 case offered to me for 20 dollars.

New problem sprung up today. my 5850 was reaching 82c in game (only cod4) and basically the computer just completely shut off. So now I think I'm just going to look in to a full custom loop for the gpu and cpu.

So at this point it looks like this weekend I'll be picking up the case and seeing how it will run with my system. Most of it will probably have to be external because the rad is a 3x80 and my case is a Source 220. Not sure I'm going to have enough room in here.

And this is more for my entertainment than anything. I realize that I could just buy a hyper 212 evo or a dark knight and I would be fine, but customizing my pc is my hobby, and buying an air cooler and slapping it on is too boring for me.

Looks like I'm going to be making my own waterblock for this build to keep prices down and to give me a nice project to work through.
