Recommendation for solid case

I am in the process of building my first computer. I am neither a serious gamer or video editor...but I do want something decent. I have read thru your posts and see that you tend to recommend Chenming.

Are there any other cases that would be in the forefront?

Mobo 865 PERLL
CPU intel p4 3.0 800 fsb/ht tech with fan
512 mb ram
120 gb seagate IDE 7200
video card TBD (radeon 9600 xt)

I don't mind something asthetically pleasing, but form and function are my main concern.

Thanks All! :)

depending on the ammount of money your willing to spend....i would say in the $50 to $100 range go with chenbro and chemning....they're reliable, quiet, lite, lots of room to work in, and super screwless.

Who is this "you"?

The Aspire X-navigator is a very nice case, as is the Thermaltake Shark ... but then again, Tt cases have some oddities (like that Tsunami for instance heehee)

Oh excellent. The Chenming901 rules for that heehee :) As does the Coolermaster Stackermaster

you know who "you" are!

Tx for the tips. Any idea how quick Newegg will ship? Can I get something by the end of this week?

I wouldnt have asked if I didnt know.

No idea. I dont buy from NewEgg ... apparently they have a pretty good shipping speed though :)

It depends on where you live. Newegg ships jsut as fast as anybody else for me since i'm pretty far away from them. If you live close it's phenominal though lol.(kinda common sense i know lol) A few of my friends order stuff, and get it 1-2 days later. Overall i think they ship pretty fast, but when they habd it to FedEx..it slows WAY down lol. i hate fedex:(

I went with the Chenming 601. Form & Function. I'll let you know how the P4 install goes. Should be fairly simple...no RAID or anything of substance!

Tx Again.

FYI Newegg has overnight delivery and if you pay a $2.99 fee, they will "rush" your order process - which usually means same day as long as the order is placed by noon PST.

Finished P4 Build with Chenming 601...couple issues

The case was easy to navigate as a first-time builder. I did run into a couple of ?? about the front panel and the connection to the mobo.

I went with the Intel 865 PERLL motherboard and the front USB and firewire connections don't seem to match the mobo. Any rhyme or reason? Any suggestions? I am sure it is just my inexperience and excitement to see if the thing would fire-up...!

btw...the only drawback to the front panel usb & fw are the damned tiny connections. Really. Who has fingers that small?

Like the case layout alot, although I really have nothing to compare it to:)

Aye that front panel thingy is a bit awkward with the 601. They fixed it up with the 602 though .. of course the 602 has its quirks too :P

Some motherboards have pseudo-priprietory front connectors which might be the case with that PERL board

So in English...that would mean front panel connections

and Intel 865 PERLL...not a good match? Or is it a matter of switching stuff around and hope to make the right connection? The diagrams and labels don't make much sense.

Oh which leads me to my 2nd Chenming gripe...no (that would be none) manual of any kind and weak website.

(kidding about the english thing)

Thanks for the input

I dunno. I dont have that board.

Well i was gonna suggest fiddling with the manual to work out the pin configs.

Should have come with a manual. Mine did :) (it was a bit empty but for the most part uneeded)

No manual

I will have to fiddle. There wasn't anything in the box except the case. I would use the case again. I was shocked at the size. I have a "full tower" as described by my computer builder and the Chenming 601 is actually bigger. It's supposed to be a "mid tower" or at least I thought. No biggie here, the more room, the happier the build.

btw any suggestions for a home audio server case? I've got the builder's itch now! I can't believe how "easy" it is. Who would of thought. I am hooked on having 100% control of all the components in my system.
