Hey guys, some of you might have seen this configuration in another thread, but I went on newegg again and rechecked all the prices. Then I substituted in a better motherboard. So now i think it's actually a feasible super low budget build. Check it out:

1. POWMAX MM3800 Beige SGCC Steel Micro-ATX Mini Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811145077 ($2)

2. Gigabyte GA-M61VME-S2 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 / nForce 400 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard ($55)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128030

3. AMD Athlon 64 Socket AM2 3000+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103639 ($52)

4. Wintec Ampo 1GB 240-pin DDR2 533 RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161669 ($40)

5. EVGA 7600GS 256MB 128bit video card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130075 ($65)

6. Hitachi Deskstar 80GB SATA 7200RPM 8mb buffer Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145082 ($40)

7. Hipro HP-W430PA3 ATX True 400 watt Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817174022 ($25)

8. Masscool 80mm fan
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150007 ($2)

9. Sony Beige DVD/CD drive

Total (without shipping & after all MIR) as of 5/10/07 = $299

Looks like a pretty good build. On those MIR I wouldn't rely on those cause you might not get some of them back and if you do it will take forever to get them back. And if you can afford it I would bump that video card up to a 7600GT.

Get a AMD 3600x2 for $69. Far better from AMD 3000+
M/B could also consider BIOSTAR NF4UAM2G Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard $66, MIR$10. It have 4 x Memory slot. The gigabyte one have 2.
And for HDD. Personally prefer Seagate

The whole point is to get it AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE without sacrificing that much. As for the CPU, that would be reasonable. However, if you take little steps up on all the components, soon you'll find yourself with a normal budget leveled computer. Do realize that you can barely even get a prebuilt computer for less than $300, nevermind a semi gaming one.

The MB is just $66 with Mail-in rebate of $10, which mean overall $56. It is just $1 more than your Gigabyte!

I always heard from people commenting Hitachi Harddisk die earlier than other brand. Considering it has 3 year warranty, I personally don't mind to pay extra $4 for another 2 year warranty.

Maybe go with a slightly more known brand for the ram.

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533-$40
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145525

Or G.SKILL Extreme 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533-$40
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231043

What about this Mobo?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130542-$55
With this Cpu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103637-$56
They are in a combo, brings it down to $106 for the both.

Other than that, good work.

Good find, I didn't see that when I looked for parts.

When I saw it there was no MIR.

case should be 13 $ not 2

When i first configured it there was a MIR.

Very nice.

Hitachi is a horrible hard drive

Get this

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular recording) 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148144

And if you are a gamer then get 7600GT

Dude, it's a BUDGET GAME BUILD. Of course they're all budget parts (aka not the best parts out there). There's no point in suggesting better parts for 30 bucks more. If people kept on doing that it'd end being just another 500 bucks box.

You need to add ~21.00 for a MS keyboard and optical mouse combo from Newegg. You should probably also add ~100.00 for an OEM version of your favorite flavor of Windows. Don't forget some cheap speakers too.
