Reconfiguring Modem/ Wireless Router.... Help!!

OK, so I'm at my wit's end with this! My internet went offline and I am having a lot of trouble reconnecting it. Initially, I couldn't get the internet light (PPP) to change green, but I logged into 192.168.1.1 and reconnected. Now the internet light on the modem lights up green and I can connect to the internet by connecting the ethernet cable to my computer.

The problem arises when I then try to connect the ethernet to my linksys wirless router. Despite al 4 modem lights being green (including ethernet) and all appropriate lights (including internet) being green on the router, I still can't get wireless internet!!

The router is transmitting, as it was showing on my list of wifi as 'linksys', so I loged into the router and changed the SSID and the WPA. So, it would seem that something is going wrong between the modem and the router.... question is: WHAT???

Your ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please keep the language basic as I'm not very techie and all this is pretty new to me!
Cheers!

Log into your router and go to Administration-->Factory Defaults. Select "Yes" and click "Save Changes" - Then log back into your router (username=administrator", password will be blank) and go to Wireless. Select your network mode (I use "Mixed") and a channel. Then click "Save Settings". Then click Wireless Security. Choose your security type and create a key/passphrase, and remember it . Now click Save Settings. Now go to your laptop and select to connect to your router and enter the appropriate parameters. If you are still unable to connect, post back here with your error message and we'll look into it further. :D :good:
Eventually you'll want to chenge your router password under "Administration"
