Recording

I was just wondering if it's possible to get any better recording applications to record things other than the one that comes with computers. (Start-entainement-sound recorder) Since that only does 60 seconds, and to go further you need to click the record button again, but that cuts things out and it's aanoying to have to watch for the exact time to hit the button to continue...
--Any help is appreciated.
