Hey I just reformatted my main HD and then it said that my second HD was unallocated.

I added a partition and the end of the HD making it a 232GB instead of 250GB and now it is recognized but it wont let me access the HD and take off my data without reformatting it...any ideas how to save this data

thanks

Are those sata or ide drives there? A live for cd Linux distro is one thing often advised since that's an OS that runs off of a cd you boot from. If you were planning on running two different versions of Windows you would install one onto the second drive you are trying to save files from. That would give you access to both drives.

There are several data recovery tools. But one thing found most effective lately requires a quick trip into the device manager to right click on the drive's listing there to choose the uninstall option. After restarting the system Windows should prompt for new drive found where you go back in the DM and this time choose the update driver option to have Windows install one. Two new drive icons for like E and F with D still being your cd/dvd drive should now be seen in MyComputer or Windows Explorer representing the two logical drives/partitions.
