My computer now fails to boot up, instead going to a black screen. There are some files that I need to keep on the C: Drive. I was wondering if anybody knew a way to access the C: Drive while booting off of the Recovery Disc? Is this even possible? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Use a Linux CD like Parted Magic to access the drive and copy your files somewhere else.
If you're having issues with the drive, it might be on its way out. I'd test it before you reinstall Windows.
