I am very confused.
Here is the Scenerio...
I have an ACER computer that did NOT have the option to create Recovery or Install discs....the computer was used for 6 months (MAX) it was unplugged on November 1, 2008 and stored in a safe cool dry environment.
My Godson wanted to update his computer, so I hauled out the ACER, turned it on and well the Hard Drive Failed....it would not boot Windows VISTA at all.
I called ACER and they told me that because the warrenty had expired that the install discs were NO LONGER AVAILABLE and that this particular system did NOT have the option to create back up discs...and that the files needed were already on the Hard Drive.
I said no you do not understand the computer Hard Drive FAILED badly...those files are NO LONGER AVAILABLE the HD had to be replaced.
After a LONG 2 WEEK BATTLE with this company, I finally got a hold of someone that said that we can send the discs at a cost of $20 I said thats fine.
Now My computer that I use is a LENOVA Idea Center K300, 4gb ram 500gig HD etc....
I want to CREATE discs that will reinstall windows 7 in the event that this HD fails...However
From what I have been reading... Recovery Discs do NOT install Windows 7...now Windows 7 was OEM installed...the only DISC that was provided was a disc that WIN7 Drivers Pack for consumer desktop.
so How does one Protect oneself in the event that a Hard Drive has to be replaced, lets face it they do fail....I just want to be ready for it....
What I don't understand is why a copy (backup) will not work on another machine if the user has a legal product code to use such software...what has Microsoft done ?
Thanks
