Recovery of Factory Default Software Error

I'm not a computer expert or enthusiast by any means, but with the decline in the effectiveness of Yahoo! Answers, i figured i'd come here for advice.

I am the owner of a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5086 laptop. I've had it for going on two years, and have recently been plagued by issues from non-starting, to blue screen of death, and really, really sluggish operating speed, marked with the crashing of individual programs such as flash and the audio service.

So I decided, per advice from other sources on the internet, to restore the system to "out of box" settings,as I didn't have anything really important on it;i just use it for music and web surfing. However, once the recovery process was at 23%, it stopped, and eventually an error screen popped up. I'm kicking myself for not writing the listed error number down.

I hope to christ this isn't a physical problem that would require the replacement of the motherboard/hard drive. Since i got laid off in march, I haven't had a three-digit amount of money, and my parents aren't willing to spend theirs.

If any of you guys can help me out, I'd appreciate it greatly, I'm sick of using my mom's computer

You will have to start the process over again and this time write down the error it gave you and then let us know. Without that, we would be picking at straws.
