My computer won't start I have a window that asked me to start system restore even though I never prompted it to do so I said cancel and restart and the same window would keep coming up so I just went through the system restart process choosing a different restore point 7 times because after each restore I would get a window saying it was unsuccessful so I tried system repair 4 times an I would still get a window saying it could not be done so I tried a disc image recovery because I had a back up on a external drive after 3 hours it completed but computer would not start does anyone have any suggestion on what I can try next any help at all would be so appreciated thank you ,Ann

Reinstall Windows? Remember to backup all data first.

Diagnostic on the hard drive to make sure its not failing on you

Can I back up all my software programs too and then reinstall them like photoshop.Nero etc off a external hard drive?

Nope. All programs would have to be reinstalled as they make registry entries which can only be done by reinstalling the program from the installation media.

If your system was working properly when you created the backup then you should be able to restore it and be back in business. However, I would still verify the hard drive is not failing on you.
