Recovery Partition is Full

I have a computer that says that it's recovery partition is 264mb from being full. How do I resolve this?

I'm running Vista.

Turn of shadow copies, reformat, turn shadow copies on????

How do you turn shadow copies off? And for formating it, I just right click on that partition and format?

the recovery partition only needs to be small enough to fit the image?
