yes i know its old but i don't care, heres the story.
i installed 7.0
computer rebooted, then all it says is.... L
created a boot disk, everything is there but linux does not load up.
what could be the problem?

i installed this on my other computer. p3 733mhz, 768 sd ram, 20gb drive. just incase if you must know.

haha, you only need 16mb of ram to run red hat 2.0 and 7.0 is not very different.
i don't know what it was but i reinstalled the OS and now it works. whatever it was. maybe the boot loader or something i'm not 100% sure, maybe i forgot to select the graphical user log in. but thats weird cause i wasn't able to type when i all i was able to see was the letter L
well, its fixed so thanks for the help if anyone tried to google something.

cheers

lack or ram/speed?
Proof that we take our advancing technologies for granted. A P3 isn't "lacking", it's just not suitable for today's gaming.

Anyways, there's nothing wrong with starting on something like redhat 7. It beats the hell out of not having anything at all :) .

Sounds like a problem with the bootloader (lilo), the L you saw actually has meaning, I remember reading something about the issue but don't remember the details. You could try to re-install your boot loader, by booting from the cd and entering rescue mode. I'm almost 100 percent positive that the bootloader is the issue, I would focus on looking into that. The directory for the boot image may be wrong. I think you can run "man lilo after you boot from the cd to get the details.
