gud day i have insltalled my athlon II x2 260proc. to BIOSTAR N68S3B ((os XP SP3)all the drivers are installed but i wondered upon checking the system properties the cpu is only running at 803 MHZ.. i also checked it in CPUID the core clock is only 803MHz with 2 cores and 2 threads.. what goes wrong?? please help..

The chip might be automatically underclocking itself while idle to save power, though I don't think that should show up in system properties. Is that an old system you're upgrading or is your motherboard actually new? If it's old and the BIOS revision doesn't support your CPU, it might not recognise the CPU correctly, which might be causing it to run at incorrect speeds.

Try firing up a game or run some kind of heavy program and see if the clock speed increases.

actually this a new MOBO with ddr3 RAM 2gig Kingston
What are you referring to? He didn't reference your motherboard being old or not using DDR3 RAM...

What he said was by default processors get underclocked to save power and reduce heat. If you want to make sure, launch CPUID then launch a CPU intensive app, you should see the speed increase.

ok..fine..OMEGA.. i'm just only answering hackapelite inquiry if my MOBO is actually new.. i understand what he said...

yeah, like hackapelite said the easiest test it to load up a good game or something heavy then check the numbers again and they should increase, otherwise there may be a real issue

Yeah it's just an energy saver setting in the bios that underclocks and undervolts the CPU when there is no load.

Have cpuz open, and run prime95 or even super Pi will work fine in this case and your CPU should jump up to the right speed once it's loaded.
