Ok, i want to reformat my harddrive... i have a few questions....

1) i have windows xp installed, it was preinstalled i didnt install it when the computer was bought, so therefor i have no disk... What can i do to keep my xp and reinstall it after reformat?

2) i heard reformat erases everything, and i mean EVERYTHING.... someone told me it doesnt... it still keeps info of your computers tracks ect.... is this true?

Thnx

do you have some sort of recovery disk?

formatting erases everything but in some cases some of it can be recovered

Ok thxn... i have nothing to hide dont worry....lolol just wanted a new start with my computer since it is running slow all of a sudden.... maybe a trojan

Well, isnt it that everything is fysically erased but is still on your hdd, but windows doesnt see it as data anymore, so stuff gets installed over it

I guess as long as nothing is "over" it you should be able to recover it...

I got the same thing, and if you make a CD with the system files, and, after reformatting, can you boot off of it without having to put in a registration #? Bc, if so, I wouldn't have one, and they would think that I have an illegal copy. Not my definition of fun.

You can modify the Windows XP (or whatever) CD to be a complete standalone installation and then you dont have to worry about anything except booting off the CD. :)

How? And how would that bypass the registration?

Well when you make the standalone setup you enter your serial there so when you do the installation you dont have to be hassled by it.... now if you dont have a legit serial ... i dont need to remind you that falls outside of the realm of acceptable discussion for obvious reasons :)

OF COURSE I HAVE A LEGIT SERIAL!!

It was preloaded, though.

Is there any way I can find my serial #?
