Reformating and Partitioning Need Help

Alright, so I have a couple of questions. Im getting ready to reformat my hardrive. But here are some fo my questions, becuase Im new to this. I have 2 160 gb hardrives. When I reformat, I would like to take 5 gigs from my (right now 160 gig C:drive) and make that the partition that my comp boots from, and that my os is on. Can i do that? And doe the os only need to be put on one hardrive? (I run XP btw)
Also, Im sure i have 1 or 2 viruses that AVG hasnt gotten rid of yet, should i take care of those before i reformat, or will the formatting take care of them?

And in terms of backup, Im just gonna make DVD Data discs of what I wanna keep, sound good?

yes you can do this simply set it up that way when you format i cannot remember if the xp disk will do this for you but i know if you use the disk for the hard drive you have which can be downloaded from the manufacturer you will have a lot more options then you have with the xp disk.

And doe the os only need to be put on one hardrive? (I run XP btw)

it only has to be on the main hdd that you are going to boot from the other one will just be for storage i assume so it does not need a system on it but if you want it blank if its not needed ot be kept when formatting its best to format it and whipe it clean incase the virus is on there...

since formatting will erase all disks and everything on them they will be gone when done if you do a total clean reformatt and erase it all.

this is a good idea just make sure you have the drivers for all things on your computer before you reformatt because as good as xp can be sometimes it does not find all of the information it needs for all drivers.. your on the right path just keep it up man if there is anything else i can do just let me know and i'm here to help ya!
