reformating

If I were to reformat my compter by right clicking on the c drive and going to reformat will that earase windows or will it earase everything but windows?

You cant erase the C: drive from within windows if thats where your OS is running from.

reboot it with the xp disc and format it that way.

If your Windows drive is located on the C:\ drive, then you won't be able to format from within the OS, as geoff says. If so and you do as computerhakk suggests, then you will be eliminating Win and would have to reinstall an OS.

If the system resides on a seperate drive or partition (with different drive number) then you'll be able to format the C:\ drive without damaging your system files.
