Ok, So my friend that is stupid previously owned a mac, has a 120 GB external hdd that was formatted for the said macintrash. Here is our problem...We want to format it to work with XP, and he no longer has the macintrash. What exactly can we do to achieve this without use of a mac or do we have to go around and find someone that owns a mac to format this hdd completely?

Plug it in, and you should be able to format it.. Select it under (control panels adminstrative tools, computer managment, disk manager... Find the hd that was added and reformat it..) (Win xp instructions). Good job on getting rid of the macintrash

I WOULD select reformat however, my problem is that the hard drive is already formatted for his old POS mac, and plugging it in does nothing, XP won't even recognize it. And yes...it is MY fault he got rid of the mac lol...unfortunately...he still uses windows :-( (gentoo > all)

That will work, but you could also remove the drive from the case and plug it directly into your PC via the secondary cable (or slave). Manager should see it then.
