I have an old (3+ years) HP desktop running Windows ME, and it's been giving me a couple problems lately. When I try to defrag, it tells me I have errors on my HD that need to be fixed, and when I run scandisk to do this it perpetually restarts, even with everything but explorer shut down in the task manager.
I've been wanting to install XP anyways, so I wanted to make sure that if I install the full version and reformat the hard drive, will that take care of the errors on the disk?
Also, if there's anything else you think might help me I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
