i was reformatting my computer by booting the computer with the 6 floppy disks then i deleted the partition and then formatted it but then after the reformat, i insert the xp pro cd into the cd-rom drive, and after that, this windows set up comes up and asks for windows xp service pack 1 cd-rom disk. how do i obtain this service pack 1 and make it into a bootable cd.

You do not need the SP1 disk. Go directly to SP2. Why are you using the 6 floppies to boot and format . All of the boot and format capability is available on your XP CD.

Besides a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html you will want to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

When having the old XP recovery disk with SP1 on it and needing SP2 I simply downloaded the full 266mb service pack and backed it up on cd in the event Windows had to be reinstalled for some reason like changing to larger hard drives like now seen. That saves the lengthy time waiting at the MS update page for the download and install there plus you always have it onhand in case of...? http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-XP-SP2-RTM.shtml

Most newer programs coming out will mandate SP2 if XP compatible which just about all are anyways. Plus this will aloow you to update to IE 7 easier which is a needed improvement over IE 6's security flaws.
