Reformatting

I am reformatting my family comp. I have the windows xp disc, a 120gb external hard drive, and about 50GB of info on the C drive.

It is in safe mode with networking and I have tried copying the actual c drive into the external. That didnt work. Then i tried copying all the folders and files in the c drive into the external, that didnt work either.

Is there a better way to get this done?

Hi,

Go to this link and give XXclone (a free download program) a try. That should do it for you if nothing else is wrong:

Stop spamming.

First off, if you are able to open the external drive (by open i mean browse it's drive), just copy the files you need. Dont copy the windows folder, because that wont work, just copy your documents, as well as other places where data is stored.

The XXClone program IS NOT SPAM, but a freeware program. I think you need to check the definition of spam before you make a statement like that about spam.

Well i've seen a few of your posts, and they all refer to links of programs that no body has heard of before.

Hi,

Well, my friend. Spam does not mean you have not heard of a program, and I don't need someone telling me what spam is. Just FYI, I have been a computer tech for many years with degrees in the field and do know of a lot of helpful programs that solve problems. No offense meant, but I don't need a 17 year old telling me what spam is. Have a nice life.

Either Seagate or Western Digital web site or drive packaging should provide you with their simple program to migrate contents from old hard drive to new hard drive.

I use Maxtor drives a lot and they have a free utility. One of the drives has to be a Maxtor drive, so you might want to check Seagate and Western Digital web sites for a similar application.

HI,

XF hit it on the head and they do offer them. Nice suggestion for you. Here is a link to all the major disk manufacturer's websites:
