register a domain name

Hi there,
I've been doing small computer jobs for family and friends and word of mouth. I've decided to make up a website so I can have something that people can look at and see what I offer and friends can tell people to look at it when there are trying to tell people about what I offer. I have been using a free domain name as I am not getting a lot of business at the moment (because I'm a student) so not getting a lot of money but I was told I should get one for $12 from crazydomains. It seems cheap enough for what I want but i have googled reviews and all seem bad. Any suggestions on good ones for $12 or close to that (I'm in australia) or should i stick with free one.
Thanks
Cam

If you are running a business, I would definitely go with a paid domain.
I would recommend maybe godaddy.com in the USA as they are a domain registrar and fairly big.

just done a little searching and seems people have had bad experiences with godaddy as well. If i'm just getting the domain name and hosting the site for free and just linking the domain name to it will it matter what company I go with? Found this as a suggestion someone made who moved from godaddy - http://www.ipowerweb.com/index.html?
Just trying not to pay for something I will only have problems with.
Thanks

they look good but I am not getting a lot of money at the moment which is the problem. I am only able to host the site on a free hosting one but I could afford around $13 a year for the domain and link it to the free host site where I'll host but not sure what domain register to go with (remembering $13AUD) that will not give me problems more than service.

Ok, well from my experiance namesco have been good.

I managed to transfer a domain from them to 3nethost.com in just a few minuits.

So long as you know what the servers are called to point the domain to.
