I brought the hard drive from my computer to my little bro's computer. It would not load windows. It said i had to approve theversion with microsoft and gave me some phone number that has NO people jsut computers. They did not approve my version of windows xp (it is the one that came on the hard drive when ordered from gateway. However, the hard drive works fine on my computer.

The joys of M$. You can't just transfer HDD's like that, it won't work. You'll have to get him his own version/copy of Windows, and once installed, it cna only be used on THAT computer (which is why you can't use your HDD on his computer unless you format and re-install a new OS)

Your signature is too long. Maximum of 10 lines allowed.

you can activate windows on many computers, just call microsoft and enter in the current ID on the phone with the computer...it will say invalid and direct you to talk to someone... just answer thier questions and they'll give you a new id to enter in manually, they kinda lead you to believe you can only use it on 1 computer yet they always give out new id's to as many computers as you want.

The trick is answering the questions correctly, which usually means lying. Illegal.

i just say i was trying to reformat my hard drive, and they give me a new one. Really easy to put on other computers. I wonder what their going to do with Long Horn???

Don't like that idea... as 4W4K3 said, that is illegal. "they kinda lead you to believe you can only use it on 1 computer".. then why do they sell multiple licenses? ..cause a single license is for a single computer

.... Being dishonest with them is illegal, I understand how easy a feat it is, but it’s still illegal and not condoned on this forum.
