SBSD found this registry entry:

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - %windir%\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe (file missing)

I have no idea what this is or if is harmful to remove.

What should I do? Remove it? What is it?

It's obviously associated with "Network Diagnostic Tools" and the file is missing anyhow, so delete it.

Ok..

OK.

Is it a good idea to delete any entry that has "Missing file"? Or does it depend on what it is?

I don't want to screw anything up, that's how I crashed my last system a few months ago.

First off it wouldn't be wise to mess with the registry full stop.

If there is a line with "missing file" at the end you have to interpret the whole line first. The "missing file" may need to be replaced if on startup or running programs you get an error message come up that it cannot find the file needed to run a program, it may well need that file to run properly.

Other instances of registry lines with missing file is when something has been uninstalled and the uninstaller has left registry entries behind.

Bottom line is always be careful what you delete in the registry and always back it up first.

I thought you may have learnt by the last mistake :)

Windows security updates..

Actually the problem started when I installed ten WinXP security updates. I think that was one the ones installed. I was able to remove them (My system was constantly locking up after they were installed), but I guess this entry was left in the registry. I removed them using the add/remove programs in control panel.

Since we are on the topic of missing files.. How about this one:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: dimsntfy - %SystemRoot%\System32\dimsntfy.dll (file missing)

The file dimsntfy.dll (19Kb) IS there. (Don't know why it says it's missing?) It's a DIMS Notification Handler.

If it is OK to leave this entry, what should I do about it not seeing the .dll file? I can uncheck it in SpyBot and see what happens?

I will wait until I hear from others before I start messing around..:o
