RegistryBooster

Because RegistryBooster (RB) seems to be advertised alot, also in computer forums, it got my attention, so I downloaded the installation file, until I had time to run it. I tested registry cleaners in the past a few times, when I still used them on my computer.

My test-environment was a clean WinXPproSP2 without any Third Party software, except RB.
I wanted to know what RB would do in such a test-environment.
My theory was that RB wouldn't report any registry-error.

RB reported 55 so-called registry-errors.
Long ago, I tested more than 10 registry cleaners in the same test-environment and they all reported a different number of registry-errors.

Why remove all these registry-cleaners registries in Windows Registry without ANY reason ?
There is nothing wrong with these reported registries because they come from a Windows Installation CD.
In fact RB damaged my Windows Registry from the beginning without any valid reason. You can imagine how many innocent registries would have been removed when my test-environment contained many Third Party softwares besides winXP.

My conclusion was that every programmer seems to have his own opinion about which registries have to be removed or not and that explains why each registry cleaner reports a different number of innocent registries.
Since then I didn't trust any registry cleaner and stopped using them.

Register cleaners claim that Windows will run faster after using them, that is nonsense. Every software has direct access to the registries it needs without reading them sequential. So nothing will run faster, no matter how many registries you have.

I don't run registry cleaners anymore, because I remove any change in the original Windows Registry during each reboot and that is a perfect method to keep it clean without removing innocent registries.

N.B. : RB is announced as a "Free Scan", which gives you the idea it's a freeware, which isn't true.
RB reported 55 registry-errors, it only removed 15 errors and then adviced to buy it, to remove the rest. Nothing but a dirty trick to sell more RBs.

To be honest i just use the one included in CCleaner, never causes problems for me.
CCleaner has a pretty good reputation, it's freeware and it removes the garbage of many popular softwares and of course Windows Registry. I used it myself many years.

Although CCleaner is good, it wasn't good enough for me, I wanted more.
- CCleaner doesn't clean ALL softwares, just the popular ones.
- CCleaner removes superfluous registries, but doesn't restore the original values of valid registries and malware can replace these values, even with other valid values.
Malware-writers like to change registries, because they know that most users, including myself, don't know anything about registries and there are so many registries.

Regarding all your threads.
While I cannot fault your logic and what you think is your "mannah from heaven" way of keeping your computer in a virginal state. Users like us are a different breed, we like to experiment, we like to take risks, we love it when we overcome a problem. Computers are meant to be fun not something that should be run in a sterile environment to eradicate each and every bug. I enjoy running it the way it is meant to be run, on the edge. If it goes "belly up", so what, re-install either by the disk or by the image I made after the last re-install, either way it's no big deal as all my data is held on my "D" drive plus DVD.

I think you are little obsessive, perhaps paranoid and need a "chill" pill before it drives you to an early grave. :)

You are talking about a group of users, that like malware to keep them busy.
They don't care about infections, they even install malware on their computer on purpose to see what happens and which security software detects/removes it and which one doesn't.
And then they have something to write about in their forum(s), it's a hobby for them.

The majority of the users don't like malware at all and certainly not companies and they are relieved when they got rid of it and glad they have their computer back.

While other users were adoring and kissing malware-writers, my goal was to find an easy solution :
- to test softwares without getting punished.
- to clean my computer without additional softwares
- to remove malware without scanners
- to solve other problems, not caused by malware.
This wasn't only about malware or paranoia, I just wanted to get rid of softwares, that didn't do a good job and of course, it was a challenge to accomplish this for myself.

I can study malware better and safer than most users.
I can build upto 10 different computers on disk-C with each a different
- desktop screen
- OS (win2000 or winXP or winVISTA)
- combination of softwares,
- combination of security softwares
- with or without malware.
if something goes terrible wrong I only have to delete one of these computers.

BUT I'm not interested in malware.
I always surf on the internet with a sandboxed Firefox/Internet Explorer
That sandbox is full of malware, collected on the internet while I was surfing.
I never open that sandbox, because its contents doesn't interest me.
I do the same with spam-email, I remove it without opening/reading.

That's my attitude towards malware and malware-writers, I ignore them completely and that's what they deserve.
