reinstall gohsted drive

Hi All
sorry if variations of this have been asked 1 billion times before,

I am trying to reinstall my C drive which I copied using "DriveImage XML".I have lots of programs and settings copied onto this back up and it would take me days to reinstal everytjhing from scratch.

But when I try to load the disk image I'm told that because C is the system drive I must boot from a disk.

I tried to boot from my Windows XP (Dell) Instal disc but I don't know what to do from there. My only options seem to be to repair a partion or reinstall windows.
I even installed my C ghost onto a new partition created from D drive thinking (silly) it would be easy to boot from D, delete C, then rename D to C but I seem to be stuck.
Can anybody give me a bit of a run through on how to reinstall my backed-up C drive?

Did you make a "Windows Live CD" when you made the image?

"DriveImage XML" can let you pick and choose files from your backup image with Windows installed but will not allow you to restore an image with out a live cd such as BartPE.
You cannot replace Windows from within Windows.
