Reinstall Windows on a Laptop

My girl friends laptop has got to be pretty slow and crammed. We decided we just want a fresh install. The s/n is on the bottom of the laptop and i was wondering because we don't have a CD could i just borrow my buddies CD and use her serial number?

Check your owners manual on how to do a fresh install. Most laptops come with a recovery partition anymore and its just a matter of pressing a key at boot time to start the recovery.

i found my restore partition it was ctrl + f10.

I think you can with XP but not with vista. Do you not have any original disks?
