reinstalling XP

i have Xp right now, and i lost some drivier due to a virus attack (most likely), and i can't find drivers that will work, so thinking about reinstalling windows, say if i want to keep my old files, just reinstall windows and its drivers(just drivers acctually), can this be done, if so, how?
TIA

If there was any virus attack the first thing to do there before backing up and reinfecting the system with any contaminated files would be to run a full sweep of the system with one or more antivirus tools. Any files found infected would have to be deleted not backed up. System files can sometimes be simply overwritten by expanding a fresh copy from the installation disk.

If scans are run and no virus is found the fast and much easier way to correct any serious problems with XP would be a repair install. The step by step instructions for that are seen in the article at http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Unless I'm missing something, I just want to throw this out there....If you're doing this all because you lost a driver and can't find the one you want, re-installing XP won't fix that (well, it might depending on what driver you need - but thats a hell of a way to install a driver), you're still gonna need the driver you're looking for. Or am I missing something? What's the driver for?

No problem throwing that in since knowing if the driver is an XP, software, or device driver would make a big difference.
