Nope. You need to backup the files (documents, pictures, music, etc.) that you want to keep. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETAIN ANY PROGRAMS ALREADY INSTALLED.

As you definitely seem to be unsure of this, I'll make it very clear

If you re-install Windows you will automatically delete your old Windows system files

BUT

You can run a REPAIR of Windows, by viewing this guide (please choose your Operating System)

Microsoft's Windows XP Professional Repair Install step by step
http://www.windowsxpprofessional.windowsreinstall.com/sp2sp3installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm

Microsoft's Windows XP Home Repair Install step by step
http://www.windowsxphome.windowsreinstall.com/sp2sp3installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm

Vista Repair:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winvista/index.htm (index page)
http://vistahomepremium.windowsreinstall.com/repairstartup/repairstartup.htm (guide)

I hope that is now CLEAR >?<

Edit:

And by the way, try free Firefox browser, it has an automatic spell checker in built ;)
