hi i want to get a better mobo if i do this i will reinstall windows i just want to know if when i have installed windows again if i can use a norton ghost image i have so i dont have to install all the games and programs again

I would just try the new mobo before formatting just to see if you can get it to work, last time I replaced my mobo, all I needed to reinstall were some drivers and a handful of programs, so I don't think it's necessarily something that has to be done. But to answer your question, I don't see how a ghost image of the drive will help at all since the information on the drive hasn't changed

Most likely if you change to a different motherboard, you will need to re-install windows. And Norton Ghost most likely wouldnt work either since the image needs the same hardware as there was when you created it.

If you need to reinstall Windows, you would have to re-activate it if it's XP. Micro$haft considers a new motherboard as a new computer, so if there is a problem activating the same copy of XP with a new motherboard, you'll have to talk to MS and explain why a previously used copy of XP is being RE-used. If they can't be convinced then you'll need to shell out for either a new copy of XP or a new license.

Waittttttt a second!
My eMachines restore disks are OEM Norton Ghost images of XP and all the factory-installed software apps. You mean to tell me that I'd have to reinstall my old modem, take out a stick of ram, and take out my slave hard drive just to restore everything?! And then put all my upgrades and drivers back IN again??
