Remotely accessing another computer (vista/win7)

Ive been trying to access my mothers vista computer from my win7 computer from another country but am having trouble. She has forwarded the port (following the guide from portforward.com), disabled the router firewall, and enabled the option to allow remote access in the control panel, and I am starting remote desktop connection in windows 7 and typing her IP address followed by the port i forwarded but nothing happens.

Any ideas why? Ive followed a few youtube tutorials but so far no luck.

Cheers for any help!

1 Did you check your router? Your firewall? 2 It might be because of the os, MY brother and I had the same thing, and that is what it was.

Your mom or you might have a software firewall running. Temporarily disable yours and hers and see if that works. It might be a program like Kaspersky that has a firewall built in or the internal windows firewall. Either or disable then start from there and see if it works. If it does you need to open the proper ports on the firewall.

The easiest way to do this is for both of you to download Teamviewer. All that is needed to access her computer would be the ID number and the password that the program assigns to it.

www.teamviewer.com

When the page loads, both of you will need to click on where it says "start full version, it's free" green box to download the program.

john35 is right, TeamViewer is what you need. It will allow you to connect any 2 computers on the internet without the need to forward any ports or disable any firewalls.

Just wanted to say the same thing.
TeamViewer is the easiest and fastest way to connect to another computer regardless of the OS (unless if the computer is running Windows 95 lol).

All you need for your mom to do is:

-Run TeamViewer (no need to install it.But she can if she wants to)...
-Then she must give you her ID number and PASSWORD number...
-Now just use her ID and PASSWORD numbers to connect to her computer...
-Of course you can also run TeamViewer directly from EXE without installing it.But you can install it if you want to...

You can also use TeamViewer to transfer file data from one computer to another...

Cheers!
