Removing software!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there,

I downloaded Matlab 7 and Matlab 12 a while ago and neither have uninstall options. They don't appear on the Add/Remove Programmes list so cant do it that way.

At the moment they're just stuck taking up valuable space on my C:drive.

Any suggestions would be great.

Cheers,
Stuart

Are they labeled as something else?

Like... The....company or something?

Cause thats odd, that its not appearing in the remove program section.

It's not odd seeing smaller programs not showing up in the add/remove programs list if there are no or very few registry values created only a desktop shortcut as with some. If a desktop shortcut was created you simply right click on the shortcut and choose the properties to see where the installation folder or folder used is located.

A good freeware for removing items you don't want in the registry is called RegCleaner found at http://www.majorgeeks.com/RegCleaner_d460.html When it first opens up to a main windows you simply put a check mark next to the items you know are for one program or another since all programs installed appear there. Once those are checked off simply click the remove button right next to the exit at the bottom right of that window. It helps to go upto the tools dropdown menu and select the registry cleanup option there once every so often to run the "do them all" option. You would be surprised by the amount of leftovers found with the automatic cleaning there.

It is because of temporary files created by Matlab and other programs
that you are see so much disk space is being used.

Download this freeware file manager:

www.freeCommander.com

Go to 'Program Flies' folder, click on it.
Inside that folder you will see the folder for Matlab.
Click on it, and enter the folder.
Click on Extra in the menu, and click on Dos box.
Type "attrib -r *.*.
Type "del *.*".
Come back to the root.
Click on 'Folder' in the menu, and click on 'Size of folders'.
You will see how much space each folder is using.
Enter in to each folder and delete large size files.

First you will want to look in the task manager to see what processes if any are running for that program and end any there. Otherwise you will end up seeing an access denied error. You can also right on the taskbar and choose properties. On the second Start menu tab you can use the customize button to open that screen and choose the remove items button for removing startup item off of the Start>Programs manu. Once you delete the files and folders you still have to remove the registry values as well. That's where RegCleaner will help.
