Set up at the moment is, New C drive and external Hard drive. The external hard drive was previously in my computer, died (wouldnt spin, power failure problem) however we have changed the logic boards and now spins but will not boot - however can read files !

My problem is i need to gain access to my old "my documents" folder which was password protected. Any ideas ?

Oh..the system32 folder isnt there and can't be created if that helps !!

Thanks

nope, because it was passworded on a different computer, and admins can 't see other admins files anyway !!!

As well as this, i can't access the user accounts window because i'm on the booted copy of XP on the C: Drive rather than the external

There isnt a security tab when right clicked, its just "props, sharing, cust.."

Any other ideas...the folder contains all my a level work so is kinda important...

XP Home?
If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has Administrative rights to have access to the Security tab.
For XP Professional, disable simple file sharing to see it.

Thats what i thought, except its not an option in the tools, folder options bit !! Help
Are you asking about simple file sharing? If so that's in the VIEW tab of folder options, in the scroll box, there will be an entry ticked called "Use Simple File Sharing" Uncheck it and apply, it may require a restart, not sure
