Can you connect to the router? Go to your browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar (or I know most Linksys routers use that address) If you get a password dialog, then you know it's connected.

Also, have you checked your settings? Go to start > run > type CMD, then type ipconfig /all. What are the settings for whatever card you use to get online? Does it have any IP address assigned?

You could also try manually configuring the information. I forget right off if Linksys routers work as their own DNS and all. But basically you configure your network card's IP address(192.168.1.2 to 254), subnet mask(255.255.255.0), gateway (192.168.1.1) and DNS servers(May be assigned by ISP, may be your router's IP).

try clicking "repair" on the internet statup icon.
the other option i'd use is to yank and replug the router's power chord

That will make your network card try to obtain a new IP address from the DHCP server on the router. It's the same thing as using the Repair button someone else suggested above though you may (or may not) get more meanful output if ipconfig fails.

Cool

Wrong.

well You can't get a New IP using this way

because your cable company only assign one IP address for you

you need to either go to your cable company to switch a router or ask to switch a new IP address

if you just do buy release and renew IP

you still get the same IP

except you get some different numbers at the end

for example You real IP address is 198.5.89.1 this is your actual IP address

then the IP address appears on your computer it's a dynamic IP address

it changes all the time but these 198.5.89.1 never changes
it just simply add two more digits to it like 198.5.89.101 or 198.5.89.102 etc

so you need to go to your cable company to change your IP address

hope this information helps

you ip will stay the same for your ISP - renewing the IP for the computer is what he wants to do... it is all controlled by the modem / router.
