Repainting my computer case.

Alright so i am repainting me computer case. I want to do it red. I sanded down my case today. Heres a pic of what it used to look like:

As you may recall, i had holes in the top of my case for switches. I fabricated a peice of sheet metal and riveted it into place (cant tack weld on aluminom). I then sanded down the side panels to almost metal.
Heres some current pictures:

I realized i need to sand down the sides of the top panel, and i need to do some touch up on the front.

Now before i begin painting my case, i have a few questions:
1. Do i need to sand down to metal before i paint?
2. Do i need to use primer?
3. Should i gloss it when i am done?

If you have any more suggestions that would be great!

EDIT: What should i do before applying the primer. Should i use paint thinner, acetone.... Im kinda new at painting so im going to need some help.
EDIT: What type of primer should i use? latex, oil based etc.

Probably want a spray auto laquer. They tend to have the best adhesion. Make sure you sand the primer smooth also.

Dont combine two paints. Especialy laquers. If they are under other paint, they give off gases which peel the paint, if they are over, the strong solvents will melt the underlying paints.

You generely dont want to thin primers. Do you have an airbrush or are you can spraying?

spray can:( I have had that melting affect happen on my first paint job. So i think i know what to do so far. Sand it all down to metal. Apply a layer of primer, sand down primer till its smooth, apply laquer, then apply the red coat?

all i did was fust mine over and paint over the existing color with glossy car paint, lol. But its not the best looking.

Alight kool, thanks for the replys. So far i have sanded it almost completly. I read on an online site that you dont have to sand it down to metal, only till theres a thin coat of the existing beige color. Im going to get some primer and uto lacqour today(hopefull). I have the gloss, paint. I am also going to pick up some turtle was:). I heard it works really well also. So im just making sure i have this right.

Step one: Apply coat of primer. Wait a day, sand it, clean it. Then apply again. Then wait another day, and repeat the steps till i have 3x coats.

Step 2: Apply a thin layer of paint. Wait a day, sand, then apply again. Repeat until i have 4x coats.

Step 3-Apply gloss. im just wondering if i would sand down the gloss then add soem more gloss? Or just keep coating once a day?

alright this is what i have so far. I ran down to an auto motive shop and got some primer. They didnt hgave auto lacquer... i have some acetone already at my house, would that work also???
