repair installation of windows xp pro???

hi guys!!!
i just want to ask if i shall do a backup of my files and programs if i will do a repair installation of xp!!!
i use xp sp2 and i have a xp sp1 cd-rom installer, if i do so, does my settings on my computer that i want to repair will be change!!!
e.g.: my desktop wallpaper that i use or the theme that i use, would it back to the default settings!!!
i mean that it will be back to bliss wallpaper???
please i need your help!!!
any comments and suggestions or any answers from you would be appreciated!!!

repairing the windows just replaces some messed up files or missing files
i dont think it's gonna change your settings
