hey, is it possible to swap out my current dell wireless mini-card and put in a netgear WN511T card in my dell inspiron 6400? if so, what is all involved? thanks in advance

You can't switch out your mini-card with that but what you can do is disable your mini-card and install that in your PCMIA(?) slot.

mmmmmmmm..........

Are you talking about the PCMIA card/slot or the internal mini-card........?

i think hes talking about the internal mini-PCMCIA wireless card. i put one in my old POS compaq that i got off ebay and it worked fine after i got all the correct drivers.

There is no internal PCMCIA. Internal wireless cards are miniPCI or now some newer ones are mini PCI Express. As mentioned, the internal card could be disabled or even removed...

No, he didn't... :confused::P:D

And on topic, yes, it's possible although it will probably void the warranty from Dell if it's still within the time frame.

haha ok so which one is it...can i or cant i and how can i do it? im really kind of in the dark on how to switch laptop stuff. also, would the netgear 511T card work?

actually i take that back about the netgear card. which one of these cards would work the best for me...Netgear WAG511...SMC 2336A-AG...Orinoco Gold 8480WD...Cisco CB21AG....3Com 3CRPAG175. sorry but i figured you guys would know a heck of a lot more than i do about this

ok, the question at hand is, do you want to actually replace your internal card that's there currently? this is a possible task to complete just you have to get a specific miniPCI card to do this and it will void your Dell warranty likely if it's still covered, these are examples of some of the miniPCI cards out there...as far as a PCMCIA or Cardbus adapter goes, I'd probably go with whatever one offers the features you want, like do you want draft-N or just standard G? brand isn't really an issue just keep in mind the rule of you get what you pay for...

are those cards internal or external?
(p.s. sorry we are not as smart as a forum such as this would imply...:P)

whats wrong with broadcom?? im thinking as long as the new card fits into the correct slot, it will work.

broadcom doesnt support certain drivers that i need for certain programs i have. get my drift;)? how will i know if the card is the right size and all?

no, i dont get your drift :confused:.i think youre gunna want a mini-PCI wireless card. just to make double sure, i would do some research on the card you have currently, like googling the model number, looking for specs and pics. then i would google the card you want to put in, just to make sure everything matches up.
thats what i did with my old POS laptop, and the card i got off ebay worked fine :D

it will NOT void the warranty. They will ask you to uninstall it if problems persist though. geeeeeeeeez, read your warranties
