Replacement Motherboard and CPU

Hello people, Just registered on the forum because I've been stuck with quite some computer issues for quite a while now.

First a bit about my experience with pc's, I'm a graphic designer so I know my way around software and I know what the basic parts are of a computer but not much more then that. Oh, and I do apologies if this is the wrong section for this thread, I couldn't find a more "general" section.

Now to the issues,
my computer is now more then 3 years old and I'm starting to get problems in my work flow with waiting to long for things to long (adobe software mainly) and things just don't go as fast as I wish they would, so I thought it was high time to replace some stuff, mainly the motherboard and CPU as the title says, the RAM and videocard are fine for now, and also I'm thinking about replacing my operating system to something more up-to-date.

The things I'm stuck with,

- Replacement Motherboard and CPU

What do you advice? I'm not in need for top speed but as you might understand, something that doens't keep me waiting would be pleasant. And of course, a side issue, the cooling of it, I have no knowledge whatsoever about this.

After reading and checking some prices I think the AMD Phenom 9950 x4 black edition is a good choise? I have no clue about a motherboard tho.

- Erasing everything from my operating system disc and getting a new system

I've had some kind of build in windows XP home since the beginning with a restoring system but it seems all rather watered down and not working properly anymore. How can I erase everything for this disk including other discs to get a fresh start with a new operating system?

Ok I hope I gave enough info about what my troubels are and if I missed some details, please point it out and I'll reply ASAP.

Any help would be highly appreciated! :)

AMD Phenom 9950 is not good.
Get AMD Phenom II CPU instead! What is your budget?

Right. Well my budget.. I have to decide on that when I see the final number but I'm looking at one of these Phenom II CPU's and they are not that more expensive then the normal Phenom.

So, ok, phenom II :good: - what about Motherboard and cooling? :)

i would reccomend an amd phenom 2 940+ 3.0ghz quad core. they are great and cheap, only like $190 on newegg
