Replacing a motherboard

Have a tower from 2003 with an old A7V8X-X Asus motherboard. I dug it out a couple of weeks ago, and to my surprise it of course fired up, if only for a few minutes. I want to keep using the tower, and short of not wanting to do major mods to the frame, I want to replace the mother board but keep the HDD, and most of the hardware. (newer AGP Video card, the DDR2 ram chips, the 3.5 bay card reader, etc.) What would be a good replacement MB for the tower, that would allow me to reuse the tower as is? Also, what would be your choice of proccessor for that new motherboard?

Sorry, but you'll need all new hardware as you won't be able to use the memory, hard drive or video card from that old system. That board only used the old DDR ram not ddr2, the hard drive would be IDE and not the faster SATA, The video card is in an AGP card and can't use in todays motherboards that require PCI-Express.

Ok, so....

Alright so assuming I do not buy an old motherboard, what motherboard can I buy new to insert into the case, to continue using it, as if I were building a new system. And are there connections available to purchase to convert my old IDE equipment, such as my HDD to connect to an SATA based motherboard?
