Replacing my modem

What kind of connection do you have?

I'm a cable user and what I say is my experience with changing cable modems.

You are free to use what ever modem, however, you have to call your provider and give them the serial # and mac address. otherwise you will not have any service. If you are using cable service, you will want to see what speed you are signed up for. Modems are labeled as Docsis 1.0 - Docsis 3.0 (so far the newest) I noticed significant speed increases when I used my Docsis 3.0 modem, but i also purchased 80mb/s speed :)

If you are using DSL. (which is the modem that you linked) I'm sure you can use any type of modem, but you will need to call your provider to tell them that you've changed modems.
