Replacing power supply in old dell

im looking to get a new power supply for my dell e510 desktop

its a good old desktop that i like to keep around only has one problem and thats the bootup amberlight issue that alot of these dells have

for the most part people fix it with a new power supply so im going to try that first

these are my specs

Intel Pentium 4 630 Prescott 90nm Technology

4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2

256MB ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series (ATI)

2 internal drive 1tb and 500gb

im looking at these as of now

PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III Series 400W

CORSAIR CX430M 430W

SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W

CORSAIR CX500M 500W

SeaSonic M12II 520

CORSAIR CX600M 600W

so out of those what would you choose or would you recommend something else..i prefer modular

Do you know anybody that has a power supply that you could try first. Would be a bummer if it wasnt. But then again if its the power supply that came with it, its junk anyway.

Really it just needs one of the Corsair/Seasonic 430/450W.

unfortunately dont know anyone with one but i figure i get it from somewhere with a good return policy like amazon i hope thats the issue and if not then ill just send it back or keep it anyway

these arent too expensive anyway

Just which ever is the cheapest between the Corsair/Seasonic 430/450W. If you might use it in another computer if you upgrade/build later you could go with the 520/600W, up to you.

You are going to have to buy a DELL Power Supply,Dell uses proprietary parts in their Desktops...

No you don't. They use standard power supplies. Where did you get this information from? I've owned Dells and also work on them and not one of them in years have had a proprietary part. You can easily replace most parts in Dells. About the only thing you need get from dell would be a new motherboard if you want to use dell case as the case connections are proprietary and maybe the cpu cooler depending.

John, he is thinking of the "old" Dells where the pin-out was different from standard, I still have 1 or 2 of those old beasties around that I swapped the wires around in the connector for a modern PS.
The OP's Dell is wired for industry standard.

I had an old pentium 3 700 mhz pc back in 2000 that had that but we are talking about an updated machine here.
