Replacing Processor Fan

I've got a question about replacing my processor fan. (Don't know the official name x I measured it, and it's 80mm. Also, my MoBo takes AM2 / 940 socket. Do I need to take both of these into account when buying a new one? Or just the socket size?

What are you replacing? Just the fan on the heatsink or the whole heatsink? If you want to replace the whole thing, then yeah, you need to consider the socket.

generally you can just buy "am2 coolers" that are heatsink, fan and thermal pad for cheap

buying a fan on its own, that fits your HS will be a pain in the ass

What kind of money are you looking to spend for it and how much room do you have in your case-My Arctic Cooling HSF-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125is great at cooling and really quiet-but it takes a lot of space -probably wouldn't fit in a mATX case
