Reprogramming Desktop Computer

I need to reprogram my whole computer. I have been avoiding this knowing it's a lot of work. I know how to save my pictures and will burn them on a DVD.
Can I save all my documents the same way? How about finding and saving my favourites, bookmarks, address books and maybe some other files I want to keep. Is there anything else I should save. Most of the software, updates, printer etc I can reload again. I am using XP Pro on a generic machine.

Do you just use Internet Explorer?

You can go to c:\documents and settings\username\favorites

just copy that favorites folder to a cd... same thing with the my documents... desktop if you need the stuff off of the desktop.

that should cover it for most people.

Go into Thunderbird and export your address book. Then copy the profile folder to backup your email.

Open firefox/chrome and export your favorites.

for FF i usually just backup the profile... c:\documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\firefox\profiles
