Requirement for Direct X 8 bypassed?

I have a fairly old computer... it runs things well on medium settings such as Half Life 2. The computer is a HP Pavillion PC. Runs on XP. Is a "media center" computer. Bought it around 2002 or 2003.

Recently I bought The Orange Box. A Half Life game pack.. When I try to play the newer games that it came with, I get an error saying that the minimum requirement of Direct X 8 isn't met. My computer is not compatible with it. Is there any way to get around this?

You can buy a cheap video card, will cost $30 approximately and it will give you DX9 capabilities.

I looked into it. My CPUs power supply is too low for any modern card. 200 watts, they seem to all require 350 or so. If you can direct me to a better card that will run on 200 watts or another solution, i'd love you!
