Res Bigger Than Monitor

So I come into work this morning and my graphics are pretty messed up, My desktop extends off the side of my screen at any resolution higher than 1024x768 if I move my mouse to the side/bottom of the screen it scrolls across to reveal the rest of the desktop. the graphics card is a rubbish integrated SIS 330 mirage and the monitors a Hannspree Xm-S I've tried re-installing and rolling back the drivers I just don't get why its suddenly changed I haven't done anything to it. also if you press the menu button on the front of the monitor it informs me that im running the monitor at 1024x768 whatever resolution on the windows display bit and you can't change the monitors res manually so I originally thought it was the monitor and switched it for a spare but the same problem happens on that one 2 (different make and model) so it must be the GFX right?

any help would be appreciated

Just change your display resolution to 1024x768, here's how:
Start > Run> rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,,3
Slide the slider to 1024x768
Apply > ok

Please note you should be using an Administrator privileged account to do this:
Start > Run > control nusrmgr.cpl

I know how to change the desktop to 1024x768 but I need a higher res than this (its a widescreen monitor and I prefer a higher res) but if I set the res any higher rather than changing to fit the screen it just add on bits off the screen.
