I have a Compaq presario 3005us laptop with a bad hard drive, I got another 60gb hard drive from a dead sony viao with with windows xp already installed on it. I know the Compaq will just blue screen me because the 2 laptops have different hardware. Something is wrong with my Compaq's bios because it won't detect the Cd-rom but windows will. This means I can't boot from a cd to do a repair install on windows. I can plug the laptop hard drive into my computer using the adapter and I want to know if theres any way to reset the hardware config so it won't blue screen me when I try to boot it up. Anyone know how or have nay other suggestions? thanks very much.!

can you do like a boot from flopy than boot to the cd? i dont know how to but i think you can

thanks for the advice, guys but unfortunatly 1 my laptop does not have a floppy drive, 2nd I no nothing on grub, linux, or kernals haha.!

I have reset the bios about 5 times now lol, I cannot upgrade the bios because the upgrade is designed to run as an exe file in either windows 2000 or xp.
