My windows 8 laptop is starting to get really slow and I would like to reset it back to its factory defaults. Just to be sure, when I do that, it will erase everything and free up the memory backed up by my junk, right? I've backed up my files already onto a flash drive. Sorry if this seems silly but I'm not very knowledgeable with computers.

Yes, there is two options.
Type recovery in the search bar and select Recovery Options.
One option will say "Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows"
the other will be keep files and Reinstall Windows.
If you have a back up then you want to choose the first option i think.
If this is for selling, it is insufficient for security however, so please note that.
