'Resetting' computer

I often run very processor hungry programs - big audio sessions with loads of plug-ins etc... When it comes to quitting these programs it takes ages, sometimes up to a minute to fully close it down. Then it makes it back to the desktop, the hard-disk calms down and the processor useage goes down to normal levels.

I would expect the computer to then act like its just booted up - there's nothing running, just windows itself. But as soon as I go to do something it's very slow - opening up mycomputer takes seconds, as does right clicking on the desktop. It can often take minutes for normal speed to resume.

I don't know why this is, but I'm sick of it. It's happened with all my computers for years, I guess it's just windows being shit.

I'm sure some people will know what I'm taking about - processor hungry games sometimes cause it too. Is there any way of stopping this, or setting something in windows? It's really annoying sometimes.

i suspect you need to clean house.
download and install freeware (cclean and regseeker).
unininstall any proggys your not using.
goto start-msconfig then tab startup.
(i turn off everything) i don't need running.
then defrag. (perfect disk works well).
