Resizing Images???

Hi everyone just a quick simple question but I cannot find an answer to suit online anywhere. Hopefully some more advanced graphics program users can point me in the right direction.

I am designing a skin. It has to have certain dimensions while keeping to a certain file size. How can i save as a jpg or gif file keeping it under 40kb while keeping the required dimensions.

I have CorelDRAW 12 and Photoshop CS2. CorelDRAW allows me to get the extra compression i need but changes the image dimansions slightly. Photoshop gets it about 15kb over my required kb.

Thanks

i went down to 72dpi and it is 8kb over still. And the quality under that is too degraded as it is a textured image with fine font. Im going to try compressing the individual image segments then import into PS. (maybe making image smaller first then enlarging in PS can trick it into less kb and less noticable degrading quality). Im willing to try all possible combinations on this......lol.

Try opening the original file with IrfanView. Then, go under "Image" and select "Resize/Resample" or Ctrl+R and make it the size you want.

Next, go to "File" and "Save As". Select the name you want, select to save it as a JPEG. When you select JPEG, a window is on the right side of the save box. Just slowly lower the "Save Quality" and save, checking the file size after each save until it's the desired file size.
