Resolution Problem

I own a Samsung 6188w model. I hooked up my hp Pavillion dv5t laptop to my TV, but only (approx.) 3/4 the laptop screen shows up. Seems to me that the TV cannot fit all the laptop's screen. I cannot watch movies from my TV because a lot of the screen is cut off! I have absolutely no idea how to fix this! Can anyone help me? Thank you!!!!

That due to the difference in resolutions for tv from pc. Having just gone over this with someone else lately you go into the display properties>settings and look for the two monitor icons. To verify which is for the tv or the laptop's own lcd simply click on the identify button seen there.

Once you know which one is for the tv click on that one to highlight it and then move the resolution slide bar to lower the resolution followed by clicking the apply button. You may go this a few times to lower it enough to fit the screen correctly.
